‘Dance Moms’ Reboot Promises Abby Lee-Style Pressure in First Teaser
It’s time to get back into the studio.
An all-new version of Dance Moms is coming to Hulu — and a new crop of girls will have their work cut out for them as they face off under a new perfectionist coach.
In the first teaser for Dance Moms: A New Era, which dropped on Tuesday, July 9, dance coach Glo Hampton declares: “This will be the biggest challenge of my career. I’m the coach of the next big team.”
As a preview of the team of seven young dancers flashes, Hampton channels Abby Lee Miller’s signature fire as she warns, “I can replace anyone at any time.”
Dance Moms: A New Era is a 10-episode reboot of the hit Lifetime competition series that aired from 2011 to 2019, making stars out of Maddie and Kenzie Ziegler, JoJo Siwa, Nia Sioux, Chloé Lukasiak and more.
According to an official synopsis, the reboot stars new dancers and a new coach, Glo Hampton, “who wants to take her students and prestigious dance school Studio Bleu to the next level – competing nationally every week.”
It will also, of course, feature “new mama drama,” carrying on the legacy of the Abby Lee Miller Dance Company, as “Coach Glo must juggle her tiny but mighty dancers, their scheming moms, and ensuing meltdowns, all while ruling with a tender but tough iron fist.”
The reboot comes just three months after stars of the original series reunited for the first time in a decade to debrief their experiences on the show. Dance Moms: The Reunion saw Siwa, Lukasiak, Kendall Vertes, Kalani Hilliker, Paige and Brooke Hyland and their moms gather in L.A. for an emotional, tear-filled reunion — with some notable faces missing.
The Zieglers and Nia all elected not to participate in the reunion special, with Nia saying she simply “didn’t want to do it” while Maddie, 21, and Kenzie, 20, never directly addressed why they didn’t join.
During the two-hour-long special, though, it was revealed that some of the OG stars, including Paige, Brooke, Chloé and Kendall hung out with Maddie, Kenzie and Nia the night before the reunion was filmed, which stirred up even more drama — especially since Kalani and JoJo weren’t included.
Kalani subsequently accused Melissa Ziegler of setting the party up “to make sure that none of us said anything bad about them at this reunion,” and JoJo later admitted to “always [being] the outsider amongst the group” due to the fact that she didn’t overlap with as many of them on the show.
