A tropical community aquarium can be one of the most rewarding forms of home fishkeeping because it brings together colour, movement and a variety of different fish behaviours within one carefully managed environment. The key to success is balance. Fish need suitable water conditions, enough space, appropriate companions and a stable biological system capable of processing the waste they produce.

The most important thing is to plan the aquarium around the livestock rather than choosing fish purely because they look attractive together.
